Mastercard Partners With World Food Programme To Support School Meal Programs During Ramadan As Customers Shop On Amazon.ae – UAE Today Blog

In continuation of their long-standing partnership, Mastercard and the World Food Programme (WFP) have announced a collaboration to provide school meals in the region this Ramadan with the support of Amazon.

For every Amazon.ae website or app transaction made by customers in the UAE using a Mastercard during Ramadan, Mastercard will donate the value of one school meal to WFP, which will distribute the meals to children in need.

School meals can have a life-changing impact on children. For many vulnerable children, a school meal is the only regular nutritious meal they receive all day. This serves as a strong motivating factor for parents to keep children in school, as opposed to making them stay at home to assist with household chores and field work – a negative practice that affects especially girls. Education empowers children to achieve their dreams, improve their lives, and lift their whole families out of poverty.

“We are grateful for our collaboration with Mastercard and Amazon through the school meals campaign, which enables its consumers in the UAE to take part in the global efforts to achieve food security for vulnerable children and communities. With the continuously rising hunger level in the region and worldwide, school meals play a crucial role in securing the nutritional needs of children while keeping them at school,” said Mageed Yahia, WFP Representative for the GCC.

“We are very proud to be able to, once again, help children in need during this time of year by supporting the meaningful work that Mastercard and the World Food Programme are doing. We are always looking for ways to give back to communities and drive impact that truly makes a difference. We are thankful to be able to give customers a chance to contribute to this worthy cause by enabling these meal donations by Mastercard through Amazon.ae this Ramadan,” said Stefano Martinelli, GCC Retail Director, Amazon Middle East & North Africa.

Since 2012, Mastercard and its partners have contributed over US$45 million to WFP through cause marketing campaigns, consumer fundraising events, and emergency aid.

“We have been championing child nutrition in partnership with the WFP for over a decade in line with Mastercard’s philosophy of doing well by doing good. Through this campaign, we aim to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children around the world, demonstrating the power of partnerships. We are delighted to join forces with Amazon and WFP once again as we aim to make a lasting impact on the communities that need it most,” said Ngozi Megwa, Senior Vice President, Digital Partners & Enablers, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, Mastercard.

“As we mark the Holy Month of Ramadan, we are building on our 35-year commitment to the UAE as we support the government’s efforts to fight hunger and support those who need it most. Now, with every transaction made on Amazon.ae, we are giving cardholders a simple and effortless way to give back to society,” said Gina Petersen, Vice President & Country Business Development Lead, UAE & Oman, Mastercard.
